CREFC SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Among the primary features of the program, CREFC Scholars:
- Participate in the activities of the CREFC Center, including an annual student research project;
- Are paired with a CREFC Fellow, who serves as an industry mentor;
- Attend CREFC's two national conferences, held each January and June;
- Receive a $20,000 scholarship, with half disbursed in the fall semester and half in the spring semester.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR 2022/2023 CREFC SCHOLARS—GRADUATE
Full-time students entering the Master of Science in Real Estate program, Concentration in Finance, in either August or September 2023.
Applications will be reviewed for exemplary academic track record, evidence of commitment to real estate finance as demonstrated in the application essay and the recommendation letter, and prior work experience if applicable. While financial need will be considered, it is not a requirement for application.
The scholarship committee has a special interest in applicants who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the advancement of underrepresented minorities in commercial real estate finance.
APPLICATION MATERIALS
- An essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, describing your interest in real estate capital markets, how you will benefit if selected as a CREFC Scholar, and how you will contribute to the program.
- The committee has a special interest in applicants who can address their commitment to enhancing diversity in the real estate industry.
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae
- A FAFSA form is optional. However, financial need will only be assessed as a factor if the form is included.
- Recommendation letter sent directly from the the recommender to the committee at Schack.Scholarships@nyu.edu.
For final round applicants, an interview with the committee.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
The scholarship committee for the CREFC Scholars is chaired by Dean Chandan. Committee members include Professor Tim Savage, Maria Kalogerou, Schack's Scholarship Coordinator, and representatives of the CREFC Endowment Committee.
