House Financial Services Committee Outlines First Hearings and Priorities

House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) Chairman French Hill (R-AR) outlined his committee’s agenda at the committee’s organizational meeting last week.

Shortly thereafter, the initial hearings schedule was made public. The following is a list of scheduled hearings:

Financial Institutions & Regulation

  • Oversight of financial supervision, regulation, and deposit insurance
  • Supporting community financial institutions and access to financial services
  • Reducing regulatory burdens and strengthening consumer protection
  • Enhancing mortgage credit and financial literacy
  • Safeguarding personally identifiable information and improving payment systems
  • Reviewing the Community Reinvestment Act and CDFI Fund
  • Ensuring financial stability oversight

Capital Markets

  • SEC oversight and implementation of the JOBS Act
  • Regulation of broker-dealers, investment advisors, and asset managers
  • Corporate governance, market structure, and securities litigation
  • Monitoring credit rating agencies, PCAOB, and accounting standards

Housing & Insurance

  • Addressing housing affordability and federal housing programs
  • Strengthening housing finance and the secondary mortgage market
  • Oversight of the National Flood Insurance Program and insurance availability

Monetary Policy: Oversight of the Federal Reserve system

National Security & Economic Policy

  • Monitoring international economic conditions, trade, and multilateral development banks
  • Reviewing CFIUS, AML/CFT measures, and financial crime enforcement (FinCEN, OFAC)
  • Examining the Defense Production Act and currency policies

Digital Assets & Financial Technology

  • Regulation of digital assets, Operation Choke Point 2.0, and CBDCs
  • Innovation in consumer financial products and payment systems
  • Advancements in Supervisory & Regulatory Technology
