January 28, 2025
In addition to advancing U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) nominee Scott Turner out of committee on a party-line vote, Senate Banking Chairman Tim Scott announced his agenda last week.
Scott’s agenda includes:
- Promoting Financial Inclusivity and Opportunity: Implement pro-growth policies to enhance financial access and security for all Americans, emphasizing financial literacy and reassessing burdensome regulations.
- Advancing Affordable Housing: Address escalating housing costs by reviewing overregulation and supporting solutions like the ROAD to Housing Act to revitalize the housing market.
- Increasing Access to Capital: Develop policies to broaden capital access for entrepreneurs and small businesses nationwide, and pursue reforms to enhance transparency and accountability within the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
- Establishing a Framework for Digital Assets: Create a regulatory structure for digital assets that promotes consumer choice, education, and protection, while fostering innovation in financial technologies.
- Protecting Economic National Security: Strengthen national security by advancing sanctions and export control policies, countering adversarial threats, and enhancing resilience in critical supply chains.
- Supporting Resilient Communities and Insurance Markets: Uphold the state-based regulatory system for insurance, limit federal overreach, and promote policies that protect consumers and facilitate economic growth.
- Empowering Local Infrastructure Innovation: Reduce bureaucratic regulations hindering infrastructure projects and rescind policies that burden families, businesses, and communities.
- Conducting Rigorous Oversight: Ensure federal agencies operate transparently, follow the law, and advance policies that create economic opportunities, utilizing tools like the Congressional Review Act to overturn burdensome regulations.
