First 100 Days: Cabinet Nominee Update

January 28, 2025

President Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees are in various stages of the confirmation process, with some having completed the vetting process by lawmakers and others about to be confirmed and awaiting a Senate vote.

A comprehensive tracker of Trumps’ entire slate of cabinet nominees can be found here.

Confirmed Cabinet Nominees

Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. Former Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was confirmed by the Senate with a unanimous vote on Monday, Jan. 20.

Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe. Mr. Ratcliffe was confirmed on Thursday, Jan. 23, by a 74-25 vote.

Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. Mr. Hegseth was confirmed by the Senate on Friday, Jan. 25, in a narrow 51-50 vote that saw three Senate Republicans join all Democrats in voting against him. The three Republican Senators who voted against Hegseth were: Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Mitch McConnell (R-KY). These Republican defections made it necessary for Vice President JD Vance to cast the tiebreaking vote to confirm his nomination.

Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. Former Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) was confirmed on Saturday, Jan. 26, by a margin of 59-34, with seven Democrats joining Republicans in confirming her nomination.

Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent. Mr. Bessent was confirmed by the Senate on Monday, Jan. 27, in a 68-29 vote.
