Learn How NYC’s Newly Passed Climate Mobilization Act
Will Affect CRE from Councilman Constantinides

CREFC will be hosting an after-work seminar on Wednesday, May 1st, with the Honorable Costa Constantinides, chair of New York City’s Council’s Environmental Protection Committee and sponsor of the newly passed Climate Mobilization Act (“Act”).  Learn how the bill will affect commercial real estate finance in New York City.  For commercial real estate, the Act will:

- Require buildings 25,000 square feet or larger to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2050 through retrofitting buildings with new energy efficient technology;
- Establish a property assessed clean energy (“PACE”) loan program for the purposes of providing building owners with funding for the instillation of renewably energy systems and energy efficiency improvements;
- Establish the Office of Building Energy Performance as well as greenhouse gas emissions limits for existing buildings;
- Update the ranges for energy efficiency grades; and
- Update the requirements for green roof construction.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign the bill into law.
