In a press conference on Thursday, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner - speaking in his role as head of the Financial Stability Oversight Council - asked that voters keep in mind the period prior to passage of the "Dodd-Frank Act" when listening to Republican candidates call for the law's repeal. While certain portions of the law, such as the "Volcker Rule", are still being drafted and implemented, Geithner stated that the law had helped the economy improve, and that the new rules were badly needed to prevent a repeat of the 2008-2009 crisis.
